About Hailo Colours

A design studio built on the belief that organisation is a spatial art

We work at the intersection of functional engineering and considered aesthetics. The things that hold your home together deserve to be as well-designed as the things that define it.

The founding idea

Hailo Colours was established in Munich in 2018, growing from a family of precision-engineering companies with roots in German manufacturing stretching back to 1961. The original Hailo brand built a reputation for functional hardware — the kind that never fails and never demands attention.

Hailo Colours emerged from a simple observation: that the revolution in interior design aesthetics over the previous decade — the shift toward Scandinavian minimalism, honest materials, and considered space — had not yet reached the functional layer of the home. Kitchens became beautiful; the systems inside them did not.

We set out to close that gap. Not by making storage look decorative, but by recognising that a well-engineered pull-out system — in the right finish, at the correct height, integrated into a considered colour scheme — is inherently an interior design decision.

How we work

Every system we develop goes through three lenses before it reaches production: engineering performance (will it operate flawlessly for 25 years?), spatial intelligence (does it make the space around it easier to navigate?), and aesthetic coherence (does it belong in a deliberately designed room?).

We work with interior architects, kitchen designers, and renovation professionals across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Our planning tools are used by homeowners who want to think clearly about organisation before committing to a build.

We do not operate a retail store model. Our systems are specified by design professionals or configured directly by informed homeowners through our consultation process.

Function first, always

Beauty without function is decoration. Every decision we make starts with how the system will be used in ten years, not how it will photograph on the day of installation.

Colour as a working tool

Colour in an organised home is not a preference — it is a system. We help people understand how their colour choices create spatial logic, not just visual interest.

Transparency over marketing

We do not use before-and-after transformations, urgency tactics, or inflated performance claims. Our products work. The documentation for that is in how we describe them.

Who writes and thinks here

Anna Bergström

Head of Editorial & Spatial Strategy

Anna trained as an interior architect at Konstfack in Stockholm and spent six years working with residential architecture firms in Munich and Zurich before joining Hailo Colours. Her background is in spatial programming — the discipline of understanding how people actually move through and use rooms, rather than how rooms are intended to be used.

She writes primarily about spatial thinking, organisation systems, and the relationship between colour strategy and how a home feels to live in. She is based in Munich.

Markus Veld

Product Development & Materials Editor

Markus spent twelve years in product development roles at two of Germany's largest kitchen hardware manufacturers, with particular responsibility for material specification and surface finishing systems. He holds a degree in industrial design from the HfG Offenbach and has published research on the longevity of powder-coated steel in domestic environments.

He writes about materials, product engineering, and the practical realities of waste separation and utility design in German homes. He is based in Frankfurt.
