Our commitment

Hailo Colours GmbH is committed to making hailo-colours.de accessible to the widest possible audience, including users with disabilities. We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA as a minimum standard.

Current conformance status

hailo-colours.de is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have implemented accessibility measures across the site and are continuing to improve areas where full conformance has not yet been achieved.

Measures we have taken

We have implemented the following accessibility measures on this website:

  • All images include descriptive alternative text
  • The site can be navigated using a keyboard alone
  • Interactive elements (buttons, links, form controls) have sufficient focus indicators
  • Colour contrast ratios meet WCAG 2.1 AA minimums across all text and background combinations
  • Heading hierarchy is used consistently to support screen reader navigation
  • ARIA labels are applied to interactive elements without visible text labels
  • The site is responsive and usable on mobile devices
  • Font sizes are set in relative units (rem) and scale with browser text size preferences
  • Cookie consent and back-to-top controls are keyboard accessible
  • Interactive planning tools include visible state changes and are navigable by keyboard

Known limitations

The following known limitations exist and are scheduled for remediation:

  • The interactive planning tools do not currently announce state changes to screen readers via ARIA live regions. We plan to add live region announcements in Q2 2026.
  • The colour strip on the homepage relies on CSS hover interactions that are not accessible to keyboard-only users. A keyboard-accessible version is planned.
  • Some older journal article pages may have minor heading hierarchy inconsistencies.

Technical approach

hailo-colours.de is built as a static HTML website using semantic HTML5 elements, CSS custom properties, and vanilla JavaScript. No accessibility overlays or automated remediation tools are used. Accessibility is implemented at the source code level.
